Japanese actor Kentaro Sakaguchi recently expressed his surprise at his popularity in South Korea during an interview in Seoul.
On the 13th, he shared that although he hears about his fame here, it feels awkward to acknowledge it since he hasn't worked on any projects in Korea. He mentioned how the rise of streaming platforms has allowed Korean audiences to access his past films and dramas, making him feel more confident in his popularity. With his upcoming series "Things That Come After Love" set to premiere on Korean streaming channels, he believes he'll be able to speak more openly about his success in the country.
Sakaguchi humorously remarked that the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult for him to conduct events or fan meetings in Korea, which may have contributed to his rarity as a sought-after figure among Korean fans.
The model-turned-actor gained popularity in South Korea through romantic films such as "Tonight, at the Romance Theater," "Ten Years Left to Live," and "Your 100th Love." He is now making his debut in Korean dramas with the Coupang Play original series "Things That Come After Love," based on a novel by Tsujihito Nari and writer Kong Ji-young, which explores a love story between a Japanese man and a Korean woman. In this series, Kentaro plays the male lead, Jung-go, alongside Lee Se-young, highlighting their romantic chemistry.
