Director and Actors Share Heartfelt Moments from 'Run with the Sun'

According to Korean media, the production team of tvN's Monday-Tuesday drama 'Run with the Sun' (hereinafter referred to as 'RunSun') expressed their gratitude while sharing anecdotes with the actors.

Directors Yoon Jong-ho, Kim Tae-yeop, and writer Lee Si-eun met with Ten Asia at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 31st of last month to discuss various aspects of 'RunSun'. 'RunSun' is a time-slip romance that follows 'Ryu Sun-jae' (played by Byeon Woo-seok), a famous artist who gave up on life but was saved by his passionate fan 'Im Sol' (played by Kim Hye-yoon), who travels back to 2008 to save her beloved artist.

'RunSun' maintained its position as the most talked-about drama for over two months. The final episode, which aired on the 28th of last month, achieved a nationwide household rating of 5.8% on average and peaked at 6.9%, setting a new personal record for the drama. The 2049 male and female viewer ratings, which are tvN's target demographic, also ranked first across all channels, including terrestrial, for eight consecutive weeks.

Director Yoon Jong-ho mentioned a scene in the first episode where Im Sol falls into a lake. He recalled, "It was minus 10 degrees Celsius on the day we shot that scene. It was heartbreaking for me as a director to see the actor having to go into the water and crawl. The best I could do was to minimize the shooting time."

Director Yoon added, "Hye-yoon had never shown fear before, but right before shooting the lake scene, she looked terrified. Her face turned pale, and she said, 'I didn't realize it would be this cold,' and couldn't bring herself to shoot right away. We needed time to regroup. I had many thoughts about whether it was right to shoot this scene out of my own desire. Despite the tough situation, Hye-yoon gave her all to film the scene. I felt incredibly sorry and grateful."

He also explained that they were often unlucky with the weather during filming. "I wondered how well the drama would do with such challenging filming conditions," he said, sharing stories from their hard-working days. "The actors understood the feelings of the production team very well. We also made efforts to understand the emotions of the actors," he added, showing a deep sense of affection.

Writer Lee Si-eun mentioned, "As a writer, I checked the weather every day. On cold shooting days, I always contacted the actors to apologize. After finishing the shoot, I hugged Hye-yoon and felt tears well up out of guilt. It was a project that made me feel the weight of writing. Thinking about the filming environment made me realize the seriousness of the script. The more I loved the actors, the more my guilt grew."

Director Kim Tae-yeop shared a memorable moment, saying, "During the winter shoot, the actors suggested, 'Should we try eating ice to get rid of our breath?' It was so touching and impressive. The actors' willingness to go to such lengths showed their special affection for the project and their characters. Without that affection, they wouldn't have done it. Their extraordinary professionalism and character were admirable. All these good things came together to produce the great result we have now," he expressed with overwhelming emotions.
